Blassan George is an NRF rated research Professor and SARChI Deputy Chair, at the Laser Research Centre within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Johannesburg. He currently coordinates the Phyto-Photodynamic Therapy Research Niche within the Laser Research Centre, promoting interdisciplinary research in emerging biomedical field. He has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed journals, member of several professional bodies and sit in various national and international academic committees. He has supervised 5 postdocs, 5 PhDs, 13 Master’s, and 5 Honours students and currently supervising 10 postgraduate students. In addition to his research responsibilities, Prof. George is involved in undergraduate teaching. Prof. George is the Deputy Chairperson of the Research Outputs Evaluation Sub-Panel for Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences for the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), South Africa. He has successfully secured research funding from several internal and external sources and is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (RSB).
